News

  • St. Patrick's Day Parade: Sedona Charter School has always been a presence at this event. This year we have decided on Arizona's Centennial as our theme. The UE class will be decorating Marsha's van which will tow a trailer for the event. Students, parents, and guardians are encouraged to attend on foot or on bicycle. Please remember to wear your SCS t-shirts! The parade will begin at the Heritage Museum on Jordan Road Saturday, March 3rd and will run from 10:30am-12:00pm. Please arrive early of you plan on accompanying our float.
  • Butterfly Lady Presentation: Next Tuesday, February 28th from 2:00-3:00pm we will have a special presentation from Audrey Stephens, the Butterfly Lady. "
      • The ButterflyLady Inc. is a 501-C-3 Non profit incorporation dedicated to the appreciation, preservation and education of the monarch butterfly. Audrey Stephens has been The Butterfly Lady since 1997 and is currently working in Northern Arizona offering presentations to all sorts of butterfly loving folks interested in helping the Monarch butterfly by establishing butterfly landing zones consisting of food plants for the adult butterflies and milkweed for the monarch caterpillars." www.thebutterflylady.com
  • End of 3rd Quarter: Friday, March 9th is the end of the 3rd quarter and all overdue work must be turned in by this date. Report cards will be issued after Spring Break.
  • Spring Break: School will be closed from Monday, March 12th - Friday, March 16th for Spring Break. Enjoy your time off!
  • Intra-Personal Intelligence Course: Bridget Van Block will continue working with the 6th year students each Tuesday afternoon beginning March 20th and ending April 17th.
      • "This course is designed to support students in exploring their inner world in a fun, hands on, and experiential way. They will learn about their feelings and where their feelings express themselves within their bodies. They will fine-tune their ability to listen more deeply and trust themselves and what their body is telling them. They will isolate and fine tune their senses and see how their senses help guide them and inform them and support them in their inner knowing. These life skills can serve the students throughout their lives, building a foundation to trust their inner guidance."
  • AIMS: This year our school is scheduled to take AIMS beginning Tuesday, April 17th and continuing until Friday, April 20th.
  • Dead Horse Hike: Bill and Jacki will lead a hike at Dead Horse State Park on Saturday, April 21st to begin preparing the 6th years for their end of the year trip. More information to come.
  • Sedona Film Festival Field Trips: We have been invited to attend four different Film Festival movies next week; The Lost Medallion: The Adventures of Billy Stone , Sophie, 25 Hill, and Miss Representation (6th years only). Each movie begins at 9:30am at the Sedona Performing Arts Center at Red Rock High School, which we will walk to. Permissions slips are not needed.
  • Homework: Beginning this Friday, February 24th we will be sending home weekly homework packets with each student according to the following schedule:
        • Math packet assigned Friday 2/24, due Friday 3/2
        • Language Arts packet assigned Friday 3/2, due Friday 3/9
        • Writing packet assigned 3/9, due Friday 3/23
        • Math packet assigned Friday 3/23, due Friday 3/30
        • Language Arts packet assigned Friday 3/30, due Thursday 4/5
        • Writing packet assigned Thursday 4/5, due Friday 4/13
  • Babysitting & Movie Night Fundraiser CANCELED: The fundraiser has been due to lack of interest.
  • Tip A Cop: Members of the Police Department will be hosting a 'Tip-A-Cop' fund raising event to help fund the annual Sedona Charter School 6th Grade field trip. Police Officers will serve patrons at Cafe Jose on Wednesday, February 29th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Class Plays: Save the date! UE class plays will take place Thursday, May 10th from 5:30-7:30pm.

  • We would like to encourage students and/or their parents to first speak with their Advising Teacher should personal or academic issues arise. If necessary, the issue will then be taken to Marsha as Principal Educator and further action taken if needed.
  • We do not have a microwave available for students to heat up their lunch at school
  • Please send a reusable water bottle to school with your student to keep in their cubby
  • Students are encouraged to bring a snack to school to eat before lunch

50 Parent/Guardian Volunteer Hours per year are required for each SCS student unless other arrangements are made with the Principal Educator. Below are the current volunteer opportunities for the UE classroom. Be sure to log your hours in the main office!


  • Parent Help Needed: We are looking for parent volunteers to help out with various tasks (tutoring students, grading, roving) within our classroom Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:00-12:00 (or any increment of time between these hours). If you are interested, please contact us.
  • Classroom Library Organization: We need help organizing our classroom library which includes ordering and coding our wide variety of novels.
  • Laminating/Hole Punching: If you are available to help us with laminating during the school day, please let us know or drop by and check in with Marsha.
  • Friday Electives: We are in need of volunteers to run Friday electives from 2:00-3:00pm for next semester. If you can commit to the entire semester (April-June) and would like to lead one of the following classes or have an idea of your own, please email us.

News

  • Bohemian Night/Open House: Our annual Bohemian Night celebration will take place TOMORROW, Thursday, February 16th. The festivities will begin in the Lower Elementary classroom from 5:30-6:00, then move to Upper Elementary from 6:15-6:45, and finish in the Middle School from 7:00-7:30. Refreshments will be served at 7:30.
  • Sedona Film Festival Field Trips: We have been invited to attend four different Film Festival movies next week; The Lost Medallion: The Adventures of Billy Stone , Sophie, 25 Hill, and Miss Representation (6th years only). There will be a $5 fee to attend just the movie, Puss and Boots. Seating will begin at 6:30pm and the movie will start at 6:50. There will be refreshments for sale. All proceeds will go to the 6th Year Road Trip to the Grand Canyon. More information to come.

News
  • Issue Resolution: We would like to encourage students and/or their parents to first speak with their Advising Teacher should personal or academic issues arise. If necessary, the issue will then be taken to Marsha as Principal Educator and further action taken if needed.
  • Babysitting & Movie Night Fundraiser: The 6th Years will hold a fundraiser on Friday, February 24th. Babysitting will take place from 5:00-9:00 for a fee of $25 for the first child and $5 for each additional child. This fee will include a spaghetti dinner, popcorn, water, and admission to the movie. There will be a $5 fee to attend just the movie, Puss and Boots. Seating will begin at 6:30pm and the movie will start at 6:50. There will be refreshments for sale.               • essential oils (for cleaning and aromatherapy)

  • Valentine Exchange: Students are allowed to bring valentines as long as they include everyone in the class (we have 55 students). They can decorate a brown paper bag or shoebox at home in which to receive their valentines and bring it in on February 14th.

News

  • Date Night Fundraiser: The 6th Years will hold a Date Night Fundraiser on Friday, February 24th. They will babysit for a nominal fee which will include dinner and a movie. All proceeds will go to the 6th Year Road Trip to the Grand Canyon. More information to come.
  • Spelling Bee: Congratulations to first place winner Forrest Hartley and runner-up Kai Zimmerman! Forrest will compete in the Yavapai County Spelling Bee in Prescott on Wednesday, February 15th, with Kai completing in his stead should Forrest be unable to attend.
  • Mystery History: Our annual Mystery History presentations will take place the week ofFebruary 6-10 from 8:30-9:00 am and 12:00-12:30 pm. The presentation schedule is attached and will be sent home in this Friday's packet. There is very little wiggle room in the schedule in order to accommodate all 56 students.
  • Valentine Exchange: Students are allowed to bring valentines as long as they include everyone in the class. They can decorate a brown paper bag or shoebox in which to receive their valentines at home and bring it in on February 14th.
  • Bohemian Night: Our annual Bohemian Night celebration will take place on Thursday, February 16th from 5:30-7:00. Please save the date!
  • President's Day Long Weekend: There is no school on Friday, February 17th andMonday, February 20th in honor of President's Day.
  • Art Supplies Needed: Andrea is requesting donations of newspapers and paint roller tins for a Language Arts art project for the 4th years.
