News
  • All Student West Fork Hike--DRIVERS NEEDED: This Friday, April 27th the UE class will hike West Fork. We will leave at 11:00am and return at 3:00pm. Please contact us if you can drive. 
  • Symphony Thursday:  This Thursday at 10:30 is the Flagstaff Symphony League’s presentation of Woodwinds performers at Sedona Charter School.
  • Library Parking Lot Maintenance: Brewer Brothers Contractors will be working in the library parking lots on Monday, April 23 and either Thursday, April 26 or Friday, April 27.  Parts of the driveway and parking lots will be unavailable as they work.  They'll be putting on a seal coat.  The plan is to do the staff parking lot and also the middle public parking lot on Monday. The parking lot closest to the entrance and also the section next to the apartment buildings will be done on Thursday or Friday.  This will impact the school mostly on Thursday or Friday when the usual drop-off area may not be available, depending on when work starts that morning.  The middle parking area should still be available.  The path to the school should always be accessible.
  • Metals Recycling Extended: Thank you to all who have brought us your recyclable items. Our dollars earned to date: over $500.  It is all going to help costs for our 8th grade Catalina trip – a week long marine science camp. With such success, we will continue this work up to April 27thPlease send this flyer out to who can help us and want to be rid of some of their junk metal.

  • Talent Show: Join us this Friday, April 27th from 5:00-8:00 pm! Admission is $5.00 per person. There will not be judges--this will simply be a showcase of talent. Please bring background music or instruments, if needed. Acts must be 3 minutes or less. Proceeds go to the Middle School Catalina Island Trip.   • Class Plays: Save the date! UE class plays will take place Thursday, May 10th from 5:30-7:30pm.

    • tools (screwdrivers, saws, hammers, etc.)
    • wood
    • nails
    • screws
  • We would like to encourage students and/or their parents to first speak with their Advising Teacher should personal or academic issues arise. If necessary, the issue will then be taken to Marsha as Principal Educator and further action taken if needed.
  • We do not have a microwave available for students to heat up their lunch at school
  • Please send a reusable water bottle to school with your student to keep in their cubby
  • Students are encouraged to bring a snack to school to eat before lunch 

Volunteer Opportunities
    50 Parent/Guardian Volunteer Hours per year are required for each SCS student unless other arrangements are made with the Principal Educator. Below are the current volunteer opportunities for the UE classroom. Be sure to log your hours in the main office!

  • Parent Help Needed: We are looking for parent volunteers to help out with various tasks (tutoring students, grading, roving) within our classroom Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:00-12:00 (or any increment of time between these hours). If you are interested, please contact us.
  • Classroom Library Organization: We need help organizing our classroom library which includes ordering and coding our wide variety of novels.
  • Laminating/Hole Punching/Editing: If you are available to help us with these tasks during the school day, please let us know or drop by.

  • All Student West Fork Hike--Drivers Needed: Next Friday, April 27th the UE class will hike West Fork. We will leave at 11:00am and return at 3:00pm. Please contact us if you can drive.

  • Car Wash Saturday: This Saturday from 10am to 2pm at the old Kentucky Fried Chicken location, 2015  SR89A. The weather will be getting hot, so it’s a great time to clean the car!
  • Family Movie Night Friday: This Friday, April 20th from 5:00-9:00pm we will be showing The Jungle Book on the lawn. Admission is $5.00 per person. Snacks will be on sale. Parents have the option of using this as a parent night out—we will have babysitting available for $5.00 per child per hour, which includes a pizza dinner; each additional child will be half price.

  • AIMS: This year our school is scheduled to take AIMS beginning Tuesday, April 17th and continuing until Friday, April 20th. Testing will take place between the hours of 9:30am and 12:30pm, though students will be given extra time if needed. Make ups will take place April 23-25.

  • 2012-13 School Year After-School Sports Programs: Bill is currently investigating setting up sports programs for next year. Possible sports could include flag football, basketball, baseball, kickball, and volleyball. Other schools and city leagues are being contacted to ask for participation.
  • Natural Classroom Cleaning Supplies: We are requesting donations of natural classroom cleaning supplies including oils of tea tree and oregano.
  • 2012-13 School Year Farm and Garden Opportunities: Next year our current 6th year students will be heading off to our Middle School as 7th graders.  They will have the opportunity to participate in the School Farms Program.  We are currently studying animal husbandry and horticulture in Science in preparation for next year.  We are looking for parents interested in helping out at the program at the farm. Next year the Upper Elementary will also be involved with the gardening program at school.  We are also looking for parents to participate in our self-sustaining gardening program.  Do not worry about a green thumb we will have lots of help from the Verde Valley Master Gardeners. 6th years will be visiting the farm next Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30-10:30am.

  • Montessori Parent Education Night: Join us TOMORROW, Thursday, April 12th at 7:00pm. Guest presenter Laurie Ewert-Krocker will speak on how a Montessori education shapes a child for life. Laurie works with the North American Montessori Teacher's Association as part of a team that orients teachers who are beginning to work in Montessori Adolescent programs around the world.Parents will earn 5 hours of volunteer time for attending this event and UE will have a class party if more than half of our parents attend.
  • Smoothies: We are partnering with Zainey's and selling smoothies EVERY Friday for $5.00 each. Proceeds go to UE end of the year trips.

  • Food Drive for US Navy Solidier: Office Assistant Julie's cousin, Dennis Brandon, has been deployed to Afghanistan for the third time in the past four years. Besides missing his friends and family, the main thing he misses is junk food! Please send the following non-perishable items to our classroom by THIS Friday, April 13th and we will send them to Dennis

  • AIMS: This year our school is scheduled to take AIMS beginning Tuesday, April 17th and continuing until Friday, April 20th. Testing will take place between the hours of 9:30am and 12:00pm, though students will be given extra time if needed. Make ups will take place April 23-25.
  • Neighborhood Night Event: On Tuesday, April 17th at the Wildflower Bread Company in the Hyatt Shops in Uptown Sedona, a group of Sedona Charter School students will be working to raise funds for their upcoming trip to New York City to participate the Montessori Model UN (MMUN). Montessori Model United Nations has partnered with the United Nations to inspire Upper Elementary and Middle School Montessori students to global citizenship through classroom- or after-school study which culminates in a two day global education simulation experience in New York. The final assembly will be held in the General Assembly building at United Nations headquarters.

  • Fair-Trade Chocolate Easter Egg Hunt: On Thursday, April 5th at 12:30pm New Global Citizens will host a Fair-Trade Chocolate Easter Egg Hunt across the bridge. Admission is $2.00 and you get to keep the eggs you find! All proceeds go to charity.

  • One Day Without Shoes: On Tuesday, April 10th, our class will be participating in One Day Without Shoes, a national event to raise awareness of the millions of people across the world who live their lives without shoes. Students are encouraged to wear flip-flops or other footwear that can be easily removed on this day. We will be screening the documentary For Tomorrow: The TOMS Shoes Story at 1:30pm and parents/guardians are invited to attend. 
  • Homework: Beginning Friday, February 24th we will be sending home weekly homework packets with each student according to the following schedule:
        • Language Arts packet assigned Friday 3/30, due Monday 4/9
        • Writing packet assigned Thursday 4/5, due Friday 4/13
