1/4/12 Newsletter

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

News

  • A HUGE Thank You!: We were blown away, once again, by the generosity of our UE parents and families this holiday season. Thank you so much for the wonderful gifts, food, and time you spent with us before the break. One thing that is so unique about SCS is how involved and caring our parents/guardians are. We can't thank you enough!
  • End of Semester: December 16th was officially the end of the 2nd semester. Parent-Teacher conferences will be held by request and Report Cards will be sent out within the next few weeks.
  • Visual Journaling After School Program: Beginning on January 26 (Thursday) Maleita Wise, who has been our Artist in the Classroom for several years, will be holding a 6 week session on keeping a visual journal. Classes will be held from 3:30 until 4:30 in the Cabin after school. Cost of class is $60.00. This includes all materials except the journal, which she will get at her teacher’s discount from Michaels, at $6.00 each. The use of this journal will extend beyond the class, as the child will learn how to do the visual journal as a tool for ongoing journal keeping after the class is done. If you are interested in more information on this, you may contact Maleita at wise1@q.com or reach her by phone at 634-3697. Printed out information is available upon request from the office. This is a process Maleita has been teaching all age levels since the 80’s. As a life skill it is her belief that this is a wonderful tool to be clear and compassionate toward the self as well as others in one’s life. Class is limited to 10 students.
  • Sedona Marathon: Training for the Sedona Marathon event is underway! Once again, parent volunteers Todd and Keira Schultz are helping our students prepare for the marathon event, which will be held on February 4. UE training is on Thursdays 8:30-9:00 am. Parents are welcome to participate in the training. If you are interested in manning and decorating our Sedona Charter School aid station at the event, please let Alice know.
  • Mandatory 6th Grade Trip Meeting: There will be a mandatory 6th Grade Trip meeting on Wednesday, January 18th at 5:00pm in the UE classroom.
